Home » Girls' Soccer NewsLady Titans are North State Champs!!July 30, 2008 By iHigh Staff of Ridgeland High SchoolThe Lady Titans defeated the Lady Pirates from Pearl HS 2-1 on Wednesday night to improve to 20-3-1 and advance to the 2008 State Finals to play East Central on Saturday at 10:00AM. The Lady Titans would get on the board first when senior midfielder Kelsey Givan drove a ball into the box at the near post. Senior forward Becca MacNeill played a ball across the goal face to a wide-open Angie Smith. She and the ball slid into the goal giving Ridgeland the 1-0 lead. That would stand until the half. The second half started out as the Oxford game did. The Lady Pirates would score in the forty first minute of play to tie the score at 1-1. Both teams would have excellent shots at goal in the games next thirty minutes. Sophomore keeper CJ Winship made a kick-save on a break though with ten minutes remaining. Ridgeland, on the other hand, took three shots from within the six yardline after being awarded a corner kick. One of the shots was deflected off the cross bar. The score would stay tied until the 78th minute of play. MacNeill was fouled from behind inside the penalty area and would be awarded a penalty kick. Her shot rocketed into the left corner for her 8th game-winning goal of the season. The Lady Titans killed the remaining minute and a half for the win. The Lady Titans will face the South State Champion Lady Hornets of East Central on Saturday morning at 10:00 for the state title.
