After suffering 3-1 losses to both Clinton and Madison Central, the Lady Wave hoped to come away with a win. They did not.
The defense that has allowed only two goals in January, allowed absolutely none to the visitors from Tupelo. “The defense has experienced a bit of a resurgence these last few games,” said Coach Winship. “Our defense has gone mostly unnoticed this year as we have had trouble scoring, but they have quietly gone about their business.”
The team has allowed thirteen goals in seventeen matches for a goals against average of just 0.68.
The first Titan score came off a failure to clear a ball driven to the Tupelo keeper. Her pass was deflected by 8th grade forward Mary Ashton Lembo to a wide-open Carmen Bofill. The junior laced a shot into the net for the 1-0 lead.
The second goal came off a steal by freshman midfielder Rachel Harris. Her pass to senior midfielder Morgan Webb was sent into space to Bofill. Her cut and shot gave the Lady Titans the 2-0 lead.
The defense led by junior fullback Allison Ayers and junior keeper CJ Winship would allow Tupelo only four quality shots on goal.
The district playoff race will be decided Tuesday at Titan Field.
